“Threads of Transformation” showcases paintings, textiles, and sculptures by Krista Dedrick-Lai and Margaux McAllister. Dedrick-Lai and McAllister share their journeys of self-reflection and growth through womanhood and motherhood. Navigating brokenness, tenderness, and togetherness in these mixed-media works, they examine human connections and transformation.

Krista Dedrick-Lai is a multidisciplinary Philadelphia-based artist whose work confronts the everyday struggles of motherhood, domesticity, and human connection. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Tyler School of Art and Architecture and her work is in the Philadelphia Museum of Art collection. She has had solo exhibitions in Philadelphia and Los Angeles. In her mixed-media works, she paints, weaves, and sews bittersweet realities to practice healing and acceptance.

Margaux McAllister is a multidisciplinary artist whose masks and paintings express emotional states that challenge and define our identities. She received her Master of Fine Arts from the San Francisco Art Institute and her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Moore College of Art and Design. She resides in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.

With her rug-tufted masks and paintings, McAllister explores the complexities of motherhood, familial relationships, mental health, and healing. Her masks, figures, and animals are physical manifestations of feelings and self-expression. Joy, tenderness, anger, love, and frustration can be found in these works. Using the figure as the subject, McAllister analyzes the psychological impacts of self on familial relationships.
