PMG’s creator Isaiah Zagar includes hundreds of Mexican folk art objects throughout Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens. Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a significant celebration in Central and Southern Mexico that begins on the final day of October. In preparation, families honor their departed loved ones with an ofrenda (altar) and by decorating sugar skulls.

Learn more about Día de Muertos in this special event for all ages that includes full admission to PMG and exclusive access to our fully mosaicked basement where you will decorate your own sugar skulls to take home.

  • Please be aware that we will be working in a space that can only be accessed by stairs. Please contact education@phillymagicgardens.org for other accommodations.
  • All participants older than 2 years must have a ticket to enter the basement. Participants younger than 16 must be accompanied by a paying adult participant.
  • The time on your ticket is your workshop time. Guests may stay in the museum as late as 6:00 p.m. when it closes.
